Regional
Museum of Archaeology and Prehistory offers an extensive sample of
these discoveries. It is located in the basement of the Diputación
Provincial building.
The
City
Fine Arts Museum contains a portrait of King Ferdinand VII painted
by Francisco Goya. It was originally commissioned by the city. It also
features a collecfion of Goya's Caprichos and Tauromaquia engravings. And
there are works by contemporary artists from Santander.
The
Menéndez
y Pelayo Library holds some 50,000 volumes. Most of the books were
originally part of Menéndez y Pelayo's own collection.
Two
museums of great interest are the Maritime Museum in Santander and
the Museum of Ethnography in Muriedas. |
