| The most popular way to
travel to Ibiza is by air. Annually, more than 4 million passengers pass
through the airport of the biggest island of the Pitiüses. The airport
is known as es Codolar, in Sant Francesc Xavier, and is seven kilometres
from the city of Ibiza. From this airport there are regular connections
with Majorca and Minorca, operating throughout the entire year, as well
as connections with the Spanish peninsula and various European capitals.
The road network of the Pitiüses
is organised radially around the capital, and the important connecting
roads are those such as Ibiza City-Sant Antoni or Ibiza City-Sant Joan.
The rest are of local character. Four bus companies have a combined network
that covers the island and provides access to all its villages.
Via the sea, travel is possible
to the ports of Ibiza city and of Sant Antoni. Ships from the Trasmediterranea
company, among others, arrive in Ibiza city from Barcelona (9 and a half
hours), València (six and a half hours), Palma (four and a half
hours) and from the Balearia company, ships arrive from Dènia, Palma
and Formentera (45 minutes). Pitiusa Transport (PITRA) operates the link
between Ibiza and Formentera with a journey time of around an hour.
Into Ibiza's second port,
Sant Antoni, arrive the ships of Umafisa and Balearia companies, travelling
from Dènia, Alacant (four hours) and Palma (four hours). In summer,
a fast-ferry is operated that connects Palma with Ibiza in two hours and
Ibiza-Valencia in three hours. |
