| The food in Alicante is
very rich and varied and in the capital it is possible to taste many of
the dishes typical inland and south of the province. Perhaps the most famous
being the rice dishes, worthy of mention being the 'banda' rice and rice
from Alicante prepared with: chicken, rabbit, red peppers, tomato, 'ñora',
and salt. However if there is paella, there must be salad and here there
is nothing better than that called 'esgarraet'. This hors d'oeuvre is eaten
in the summer and the tomato, pepper, aubergine, oil, and garlic are some
of its main ingredients. There are salted meats to accompany your aperatif:
especially valued are the small dried salted tuna (mojama), 'melva', roe,
and 'tonyina'. Not to be forgotten are the 'capellá', dried cod,
and the 'budellet' (tuna tripe on sauce'). For dessert, anything that is
prepared with figs, for example the 'arrop i tallaetes' Horchata (tiger
nut milk) and 'turrón' (type of sweet) is the sweetist of menus. |
